If you want to point a domain address that you have to a different domain name or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it's forwarded to. That way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site that you have created, but it'll also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our shared hosting is really easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in just a few easy steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you many opportunities - if you create a company website on our end, for instance, the staff can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you decide to set up a site using a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain address, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems a tough task to people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single semi-dedicated package that we provide, is quite easy to use. If you wish to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all you need to do will be to pick the domain or subdomain that you need, select the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then type in the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is very simple and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record will be completely active and within several hours it will propagate around the world. If you aren't sure what you have to do, we've prepared a comprehensive help article and a short video tutorial on how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located within that very same section of Hepsia. Needless to say, you can also get in touch with us for help at any time.
