Transferring an existing domain name involves changing the domain name registrar that provides the domain registration service, so after the transfer itself, you’ll have to manage things like renewal fees or DNS modifications through the new registrar company. The transfer procedure is standard with most generic and country-code top-level domain name extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain name entails several basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain. The lock is a security option, which is being adopted by more and more domain registry organizations. It is a standard feature supported by all gTLDs. If a domain name is locked, it won’t be possible to start a transfer procedure, so no one can even try to steal your domain. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain is registered in the first place and all new domain names that support this feature are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

If you purchase a shared hosting from our company, you’ll be able to administer all domains registered through us using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and you will be able to unlock any of them with just a couple of clicks. All registrations will be listed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the hosting Control Panel and for each one of them you’ll notice a small padlock logo. Clicking on it will show you the current security lock status. If the domain is locked and you would like to transfer it, you will just need to click once again and that’s it. Locking a domain is just as easy and since the domains are managed in the exact same place as the hosting account itself, you will not need to sign in and out of different admin panels.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have registered a domain name through us and you would like to transfer it away, you can easily unlock it via the same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to manage your semi-dedicated server account. All domain name registrations will be displayed in alphabetical order in your account and you’ll see a tiny padlock-like icon on the right side of each domain there, provided that its generic or country-code extension supports the registrar lock option. You can find out if the domain name is locked or not by clicking on this icon and change the present status by clicking on it again. You can then continue and start the domain name transfer process right away without waiting for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup sites, as the update will propagate instantly without you or us having to do anything else.
